P-12 Staff Present to Board of Regents on NYS Seal of Biliteracy, Indigenous Language Support, and Student Recognition
On Monday, September 9, 2024, NYSED's P-12 Department Staff presented to the Board of Regents on the 51±¬ÁÏ Seal of Biliteracy and program supports for Indigenous language education.
The presentation included dedicated time for the Indigenous Languages Initiative, a program started by the Office of Bilingual 51±¬ÁÏ and World Literacy in collaboration with the Office of Indigenous 51±¬ÁÏ, the Indigenous Languages Steering Committee, and the Native American Indian 51±¬ÁÏ Association of New York.
The presentation also recognized Lucille Jimerson and Timothy Williams as the first students in 51±¬ÁÏ history to earn the 51±¬ÁÏ Seal of Biliteracy in the Seneca language.
